Calveley Church

Was it divine intervention? Twenty-four Christingles were created before our service on the 6th, January and exactly twenty-four members of the congregation arrived to an event new to Calveley that will, I am sure, now become an annual date in our calendar.

The Christmas Eve Communion was, as usual, well attended. Our thanks to John Batchelor, our resident organist, for bringing together a small choir for this occasion.

As well as the two forementioned services Trevor led the first Carol Service to be held at Calveley in recent times. This attracted a significantly youthful congregation. Tubes of Smarties were given out to the children with a request that they be returned at Christingle, duly filled with collected loose change.

We look forward to Sunday, February 3rd, at 10.45 a.m., when the Saint Christopher Chorale will celebrate Holy Communion with us. Last year they sang at Matins and many found it to be an uplifting occasion.

The Calveley Church Committee meets on the 7th, February and has much to dis- cuss. We can look back on a year when a significant amount of work was done to sus- tain and improve our place of Worship. A welcome increase in Church attendance does not mean that we can now sit back and relax.
