That was the call which emanated from Bunbury Parish Church, signalling that this year's Holiday Club event was under way. For the sixth year running, the interior of St. Boniface was temporarily re-arranged. This time it became a huge computer. (Previous years have included an olympic arena, a desert island, a gym., a factory and a ship.)

The children were invited to become part of a computer game entitled, 'God's Great Plan for the World', exploring a different level every day through fun, games, singing, crafts, a video, discussions and ("Dan - dandandan - daaaaaaan") daily episodes of a drama entitled 'Virusbusters'.

A lot of junk modelling featured this year and the children seemed thoroughly to enjoy creating junk computers, some of which went so far as to include digital cameras! Competitive spirit was also unleashed, especially during the Megaquest Grand Prix. For this, each team of children built their own 'car'; then they raced them the next day.

Then, by way of a finale, parents were treated to a precis of the week, which included, to the delight of the children, a re-run of the car race. Nor did the adults miss out: they had a go as well! There was also a repeat of episode five of the drama, complete with an evil baddie and custard pies.

Afterwards, those who could staggered up to the Vicarage for a bbq party.

Phew! What a week!

Of course, an event like this simply does not happen unless a team of loving, caring, enthusiastic and committed people are prepared to get stuck in and give loads of time and energy so that ideas can become reality. To everyone who gave (and/or loaned) something, a great big THANKYOU. I am not going to attempt to list everyone here for fear of missing someone out. You all know who you are.

This year, we were without the inspiration and energy that was provided by Peter and Vicki Crawley. They were responsible for first introducing the Holiday Clubs to Bunbury and successfully ran five of them. Boy, are they a hard act to follow! However, follow them we did and hopefully continued the fabulous legacy they have left for us.

If you would like to see a sample of what went on during Holiday Club week, then check on www.stbonifacebunbury.org.uk .

The church website has a selection of piccies taken by our roving photographer (a.k.a. Peter Crump). There should also be some displays still up in the church, including photos taken by Neville Edgely during his first ever stint with a Holiday Club. I am also planning to show off some of the material at this year's Beeston Castle Fete as part of our mission. I hope plenty of folk will have been able to come and have a look and a chat.

What next? All being well, the new school term should also see the return of Kingdom Kids (the Sunday Kids' Club which meets, on site, during the 9.30 a.m. Services). Anyone fancy taking part this year? Yes, there is some preparation work involved, and, yes, for the younger children there seems to be a lot of cutting out, etc., but it is a lot of fun, very rewarding - and the more adults available the less often your turn will come round. So what are you waiting for!
