Harvest Festival: "May this, the first Harvest Festival of the New Century, be a very real one to everyone who shall take part. May I venture to bring before your notice the words of the Psalmist - in the LXXVII Psalm, Prayer Book version, 'I will remember the works of the Lord, and call to mind Thy wonders of old time. I will think also of all Thy Works; and my talking shall be of Thy doings.' And in LXXV Psalm, 11v., 'I will talk of the God of Jacob, and praise Him for ever.'

These are the following distinct duties mentioned in these words:

Firstly - To remember the works of God, and to call to mind His Wonders of old time.
Secondly - To talk to others of God's goodness to us; and
Thirdly - To praise Him for what He has done.

At 3pm on Wednesday, October 2nd, the Special Preacher will be the Rev. E. Stockdale, Vicar of Wettenhall; and at 7pm the Rev. J.C. Arnold, Vicar of Tattenhall.

The offertories at both Services will be divided between the Church of England 'Waifs and Strays' and the Chester Infirmary.

Then on Sunday, October 6th, the Special Preacher at Matins and Evensong will be one of the Chaplains of the Mersey Mission, and the offertories throughout the day will be devoted to the Mission. There will be Celebrations of the Holy Communion at 6am, 7am, 8am, and at Midday.

I have arranged these on purpose that an opportunity may be given to everyone who is a Communicant, to offer to God their thanks- giving not only for the Material Earthly blessings of the Harvest, but to give to Him what He most desires, the Sacrifice of ourselves. - To lift up our hearts in thankfulness to Him for all His great and many mercies vouchsafed unto us, both Spiritual and Temporal. . . . . . .

In conclusion, may I ask for all the help you can render in decorating the Church. Gifts of fruit, flowers, corn, vegetables, etc., will be most thankfully received at the Church at 10 o'clock on Tuesday, October 1st."

2 Gifts to the Church: During the past month, Miss Tomkinson, of Willington Hall, very kindly gave to the Church two cruets for use at the Holy Communion; one to contain the wine, and the other for water for cleaning the vessels."
