The Bells
|
The bell-ringers always have a busy time at Christmas and New Year. The recent year-end, however, was busier than most and a new venture of chiming some well known Christmas Carols took place before the Crib Service. It is unfortunate that very few of the tunes can be accurately played on our eight bells. Consequently the repertoire was limited to The First Noel, Silent Night, Good King Wenceslas and the first part of Ding Dong Merrily on High. From the several comments received afterwards, this new venture was much appreciated. More conventional ringing was a Quarter Peal on Friday, 29th, December, rung to celebrate the 21st Birthday, on Christmas Day, of Natalie Parker, who rang the treble. A second Quarter Peal, rung on Tuesday, 2nd, January, was a rather sadder occasion as it was rung as a Memorial to the late Kay Capes, a ringer in the tower for several years. Both these Quarter Peals were in the Plain Bob method. |
