Some of the special days this month

St. Matthew
(September 21st)

Not a very popular man - he was a Tax Collector. But Jesus called him and he dropped everything, left his old life and became one of the apostles. He wrote the first Gospel.

St. Luke
(October 18th)

Luke was a doctor by profession. He accompanied Paul on his missionary journeys and he was the writer of the third Gospel and of the Acts of the Apostles.

After the first cold, and sometimes frosts, of autumn, we often enjoy "St. Luke's Little Summer", a mild and sunny period around the time of St. Luke's Day.

St Michael
and All Angels

(
September 29th)

Michaelmas Day recalls how Michael and his angels defeated the devil.

"And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down - that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray." (Revelation XII, 7-9)
