WELCOME, everyone, to our Parish Magazine. Some of you already know it well. Some of you will be wondering what this is that has come to your door. (“Oh no! Not more junk mail!”)
Yes, it’s a Church Magazine. The thing is, it is the magazine of YOUR church.
You live in this Parish. Whether or not you come to church, that church is there for you whenever you may need it. And while you live in this Parish, we think you have a right to your Parish magazine, to see what goes on in your church.
Well, churches, really.
And Parishes.
Bunbury, Tilstone Fearnall and Calveley are linked together in a family relation- ship. St. Boniface, Bunbury, and St. Jude, Tilstone Fearnall, are sister churches. Calveley Church is a daughter church to St. Boniface.
True, that makes St. Jude’s an aunt to Calveley .......
(No wonder we all get confused sometimes.)
There has been a Church Magazine going around in this area for generations. We used to have to pay for it: someone would come round once a year to collect your money and then drop the mag. through your letter-box every month. A few years ago, in Canon John Bowers’ time as Vicar, the charge was droppedand everyone who wanted one got it free.
Great! A freebie!
But that tended to be only the people who came to church. Unfair on the rest of the people in the Parish, perhaps. Why shouldn’t everyone have one?
Point taken.
And here’s the sneaky bit. We’ld like you to know what we all think about and what we do. We’ld be happy to share some of it. We think everyone is of unique value in the sight of God - and no doubt you think that, too, even if you may not particularly want to hear it put in “churchy” language.
Whether you are a regular church attender or a “sometimes” person or you don’t come at all, Someone up there still keeps an eye on you, watches out for you and cares about you. Most people have already discovered that. We all, in this Parish, have a lot in common.
So Bunbury’s Parochial Church Council has decided that it is high time that we give everyone in the Parish a copy of “The Parish Link” every month.
It does have to be paid for, of course, but that will be taken care of by the church congregation. It is our Christmas/ Birthday / Easter/ New Year card/ present to everyone in Bunbury and Calveley. (St. Jude’s, for the present, are sticking with the old system.)
The P.C.C. - canny lot! - have decided to play it cautiously and have safeguarded themselves by saying they will reconsider the situation if the funding falls short.
So don’t bin this. Read it. Keep it as a potential heirloom. It may turn out to be a unique “first edition”!
