Church Restorations

The long postponed Phase II restorations required by the 1993 quinquennial inspection will restart on the 10th, April. The initial work, which involves repointing the boiler house and the replacement of the north aisle finials, should be completed by the 5th, May. Work on the outside of the Ridley Chapel is planned to start on the 22nd. May. This work is scheduled to take about six weeks and will include the repainting of the exterior mediaeval ironwork.

Because of the long delay since the last phase of work; it has been necessary to update the enabling faculty. The delay, however, has enabled the Restoration Fund balance to grow sufficiently to pay for the latest work, and grant-aid from English Heritage has also been promised.

Some further analytical work on the painted stone panels in the Ridley Chapel and by the organ console, which was authorised by the P.C.C. early last year, should also be starting later in the year.
