Day dreaming is something that many of us enjoy doing, thinking how things might be, how they might turn out, if only things were different.
What would your dream be for the church?
How many people would come to worship on a Sunday?
What sort of people?
What sort of Services?
How would the worship affect the lives of the individuals and
the community in which they live?
It is always easy to put the blame for why
things are the way they are, on somebody else; the vicar; the
churchwardens; the PCC. But each of us is part of the church and
we have a responsibility to play our part.
The church, however, does not exist for our satisfaction or pleasure.
It is to bring glory to God; to help other people understand and
experience God's love. So, alongside our day dreams we need to
catch a glimpse of God's vision. And of course we are the people
who God wants to use to bring to fruition his vision for the church.
Part of the problem is that, sometimes, we prefer our day dream
to God's vision.
Almighty God, who called your church to witness that you were in Christ reconciling all people to yourself, help us to proclaim the good news of your love, that all who hear it may be reconciled to you; through him, who died and rose again and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
