The Bunbury bellringers supported "The May Day Peal" sponsored by The Children's Society, in which both our Learners and more experienced ringers took part. This event raised £63.18 and included were donations from two full peals - each of about two and a half hours continuous ringing - at the neighbouring towers of Tarporley and Tarvin in which one of our ringers, David Elsworth took part.
It may be of interest to note that the last full peal at Bunbury was rung almost exactly thirty years ago, on 19 July 1969. Due to structural problems in the tower, peal ringing was suspended pending tower restoration works. As these works have now been completed, it seems probable that, subject to approval from English Heritage, that peal ringing will again be permissible in Bunbury and possibly the First of these peals will celebrate the forthcoming millennium.
As a footnote to Children's Society affairs, "Thank you" to those who have returned another 2 tubes since last month. This brings the total returned to 88, so 212 are still waiting to be returned to the Church!
