For many years Walter Williamson wrote a ditty in the Parish Magazine as a call for support. Here is a typical example:

August Monday (to the tune 'What shall we do') W Williamson

What can you do on an August Monday?
What can you do on an August Monday?
What can you do on an August Monday?
Early in the morning.

Take a little trip to Beeston Castle,
Take a little trip to Beeston Castle,
Take a little trip to Beeston Castle,
On that Monday morning.

What's so important at the Castle?
What’s so important at the Castle?
What's so important at the Castle?
On that Monday morning.

Just a 'thing' we call the "FETE"
It always happens on that date,
And if you go you'll find its great,
On that Monday morning.

Why should I go and see a fete?
I could lie in bed till late,
Why do you need ME on that date?
On that Monday morning.

‘Cause your help is badly needed,
I hope this plea by you'll be heeded;
So that the Fete is-unimpeded
On that Monday morning.

What sort of job will I have to do?
If I decide to see it through,
If I decide that I'll come too,
On that Monday morning.

Anything from Car Park to a Tea Tent,
Prize Hut or Gate, if that’s your preferment
Stalls that need helpers, that's what I meant,
For that Monday morning.

And if you'd like to bake some cakes,
Books for the bookstall (MONEY that makes!)
Flowers or plants, sell like those bakes,
On that Monday morning.
