The Tea Tent           Bert Thornhill

Organising and running the tea tent is one of the most demanding of functions, from enlisting the many essential helpers' calculating and ordering supplies of sandwich materials, to say nothing of making certain we had the many, many gallons of drinking water especially after the powers that be had removed the water tap.

Memories of Les Bulger's helping hand, we needed three boilers to maintain the supplies for the brewery. No! Only tea and coffee.

The trouble and effort certainly provided its own reward with all the happy banter and back chat, now cherished in our memories. Like having to knock on the back door of the village grocers to obtain extra items running in short supply.

On a lovely sunny summer’s day the event passes in smooth routine, but you know what our weather is like. One bank holiday never to be forgotten, it didn't bother to rain, the clouds came down in a solid sheet and all those who escaped being drowned packed into the tea tent, including the village brass band where they cheated the weather with their merry tunes and helped to create a demand for tea and wads.

We take this opportunity to sincerely thank our generous suppliers and equipment people without whom the tea tent would not be possible.

Thank you
